End Is Near

So I am shooting for a short entry today. Yeah, yeah bad choice of words - no pun intended, I am not an asshole like that, sheesh! If I have managed to offend you already go read something safe and government approved. I am not aiming to please you anyhow. Crap, again, poor choice of words and again, not my intent. Believe it or not ya' hippy!

I realize I say that I am going for a short entry (there is that better) all of the time, prolly even most days if I sit back and think about it. Then the next thing you know I have hail married and shot for the stars ending up with an entry that takes 20 minutes to read. I am trying hard not to do that today because I want need to enjoy as much of the day as I can, after-all tomorrow its "the end of the world" isn't it?

The End Of The World

So everyone is probably well aware of that fact that tomorrow is slated to be the end of the world as we know it. If you have not heard this then you really should crawl out from under that rock once in awhile my friend.

I think we, and by "we" I mean everyone other than me, are putting a little too much effort into this and reading a little deep into the exact meanings of the Mayan writings, or lack there-of. It could very well be "the end" of something, but I have a sneaky suspicion that it's something other than what we are glorifying "it" to be. Why is everyone talking about it so much then? I think it's because it makes good news and water cooler conversation. I wont go into speculation as that will do nothing more than ruffle the wool of the sheeple. Let 'em believe, to each their own I suppose.

Ok you got me; I cant resist saying absolutely nothing so I will only say that I have a pretty good idea, lets call it a hunch, that everyone will find a way to get their double espresso, caramel infused, non-fat whipped, half and half creamed, cinnamon peppered latte Saturday morning. Whats-more is that they will also be able to make a run for the border for dinner (Taco Bell for anyone that may not be familiar with the catch-phrase). Dammit, now I wanna make a run for the border! Mmmm taco's, I will leave it at that.

Gun Control

So my plan is and will be to steer clear of any additional ranting and raving regarding the shootings in Connecticut for today's entry. Well except for one thing that came to mind this afternoon that I have to ignorantly ask and I do apologize because I know its pretty friggin' obvious.

In my defense I have yet to see or hear any mention of it so far by the media so I am simply lost and don't know what to do without their guidance so here goes. If the end of the world is tomorrow as predicted, then why in the hell are we so worried about gun control, assault rifle bans and the other issues at hand today and in the coming year?

I know, captain obvious here, but it just seems like a real shxtty way to spend your remaining hours? Yep, there I go making light of 2 sensitive topics, "what an insensitive bastard", and before you ask me I will tell you - no I'm not sorry. But if you want I will be happy to discuss it all again over a latte, your treat of course -- know why? Because WE WILL STILL BE AROUND TO DO IT!

Gym

Switching gears; the best part of my day was my daily trip down to the gym, as it is most days. Don't get me wrong, I love waking up next to my beautiful wife and fuzzy kid - c'mon that is a given. But in terms of the workday there is something to be said for that 45 to 60 minutes of clarity and second wind I am able to get simply by running on a moving platform, spinning an elliptical machine or tossing around some dumbbells.

Today was not crazy busy as it has been most days this year, it was steady and that is a good thing because it keeps me on my toes and engaged in my work. The problem started once I pulled out of the driveway heading to work. Simply put, I was in a shxtty mood for some unknown reason and I hate starting a day that way and normally do everything in my power to snap out of it as quickly as possible. It really screws up everything from my commute and me getting angrier than usual at all the fuckin' mini vans and/or shxtty drivers, yea I have a hard time separating the two as well. Any music that came on Pandora was annoying and every light was red as I approached it. Fuuuuuuuck!

Now, had I ignored the meaningless frustration and anger that had come over me, then the first part of my day would have been much different I think, again, not that it was bad "big picture". Red lights would have been seen as nice pauses to rest between green lights. Mini vans would be nothing more than objects to pass while honing my defensive driving skills and all music would be welcomed because in my book, most times, a shxtty song is better than no song, mostly. Luckily it was short lived and I forgot about it once I walked from the parking lot into my studio. Whew!

Had it not, I definitely would have taken an early break and headed to the gym. For me, the gym has a way of changing my outlook and overall day. Rarely for the worst, well unless its rupturing a bicep tendon - that does suck quite a bit.

Anyway, at the gym I can take a crap-fest day and turn it into something entirely different and as usual I did just that. Since the day had already improved a great deal by the time I went down to workout my goal was to maintain the positive mindset. No problem there, I focused and kept my sights on a positive outlook for the second half of my day. I worked-out and listened to some great music. There was not a minivan or red light in sight which was the cinnamon on my latte.

Now don't go thinking it's all coming up roses now. The holidays are upon us and all of the fuckin' "resolutioners" will be hitting the gym in no time to do nothing more than get in my way for the few weeks that they manage to show up, only to fizzle out shortly there-after because those 6 minute abs just aren't popping yet. Yea, problem is that this fizzle is short lived as they will be back once again come spring; gotta get that swimsuit body going right?

Making a habit out of anything is a lot of work, kinda like raising your kids to do the right thing. It takes time and energy but in the long run, you will reap the rewards. Make things like those I mentioned a part of your day-to-day life if they are important to you, just like brushing your teeth for example. There is much less of a roller-coaster ride of emotions that way, otherwise you are only setting yourself up for failure.

Unhello

Until next time, well, after the end of the world that is . . . .
