So far today has consisted of the infamous blue screen of death about every 30 minutes right on schedule across all 4 of my monitors. FUUUUCK! Production-wise it has seemed like such a wasted day compared to the productivity of most days of the same caliber. Although I have managed to get a good chunk of work done in-between crashes but its reeking havoc on my system I think. The crashes are becoming more frequent and slightly more severe. Fun!
Finding The Bright Side
I will be getting a new 500 GB drive for my system and applications and a new 1 TB drive for game development. So this aspect of the crashing issue is awesome in a sense. The not-so-bright-side is that I have a game that is going to alpha testing next week and my team has an internal engineering alpha test all day tomorrow to work out any major kinks for alpha. The last thing I want is to be the stick in the spokes throwing everyone off-course for a successful first-round of play testing due to the lack of necessary critical updates.
Oh well there is honestly not much I can do at this point I suppose. Our IS group will start on the imaging of my new drives in the wee-hours of the morning and hopefully have my machine back to me early afternoon if all goes as planned. My hope is that they can simply transfer everything over and not have to re-image the entire drive and system as planned. It all depends on whether its a SSD drive issue as we seem to have frequently or if its an OS issue.
All Fun And Games
I think for now I will head over to one of our test-beds and play some of the other games I have not been able to check-out that our studio has been working on the past year. It's always cool to see what others are doing. We tend to get stuck in our own day-to-days and rarely look over our own walls.
I have to brag a little and mention that this is one of the many great things about working for a gaming company. Even on a day that would otherwise be unproductive and boring due to computer issues, there is still things to do to make the day interesting, productive and enjoyable in some form.
Whats-more, should I get exhausted from playing our games there is always Xbox, Nintendo and Play Station in an office just around the corner from my cube. Otherwise it will be an afternoon of Angry Birds 'Star Wars edition on my iPad in my cube.
How cool is that? Pretty dam cool if you ask me!
Craft Fair
Crap I almost forgot! I wanted to mention that we had our annual holiday craft fair today from 11:00 to 3:30 here at work and Cicely decided to participate this year. I think it was a great decision, she made a wad of money and at the same time had a blast doing it. Plus 15% of the profit goes to families in need, awesome stuff! Kudos Cizzle!
Until next time, I hope your Thursday has been much less blue than mine!
