Rosetta's 10 Year Comet Chase

Woke up around 4:30 this morning to take a leak and heard sprinkles hitting the rooftop. It didn't quite sound like rain, sounded more like, um, I don't know actually? Maybe more like a light snowfall or something?

Noooo, I am so not ready to start dealing with snow. Shoveling the driveway, wearing jeans and bundling up, scraping windows, stupid drivers and commuting to work worried about getting smacked by some asshole that has no clue what they are doing or assume they are unstoppable in a 4x4 or all wheel drive vehicle. Those of us that have grown up driving it it know that it's much more complex and advance than that.

Anyway back to my point. After finishing up taking a piss and thinking about all of this while doing so - yea I know, and yes I did have to go 'that bad'. I walked over to the window and peeped through the blinds to see nothing more than a nice sprinkle of rain coming down. Cool, rain can suck at times but this time of the year I will always take it over snow.

That said, I think this year more times than not we are going to say the-hell-with -it and call in the days it snows a lot. It's not worth putting myself or my family at risk just to get into the office that day. More times than not we are let out early or leave early on our own to beat some of the crazy people on the road.

If it's a bad commute it can take us as many as 2+ hours to get to the game studio. We then work a bit, have lunch or workout and the next thing we know it's time to leave a little early to beat all of the crazies again. 2, 3, 4 hours of driving to work a few hours is not worth the risk and thankful my company understands. Plus having my laptop on those days will allow me to continue to work from home the entire day.

Comet Catcher

So yesterday history was made for the science and space communities. They sent a satellite up 10 years ago to chase down this comet and once caught they deployed a rover to land on it, anchor itself and then stay there to get photos, samples of the materials and so on.

A really big deal and so much planning and preparation for something like that and only one chance. Plus no idea what the actual makeup of the comet is. Super soft like fresh snow, maybe ash compacted. Maybe an icy layer and extremely dense inside.

No matter, what they did worked out great. They landed perfectly, anchored on and everything seems to be going as planned. Really cool stuff and who knows it might even help to reignite the interest in space and associated programs in school and related.

Anyway

Enough about all of that. Not much else going on today besides the weather and the information regarding Rosetta landing on the comet.
