Peavine Single Tracks

So all in all it was a decent day for riding although I will say that I do not enjoy my mountain bike as much as I thought I would. I have much more satisfying rides when out on my road bike going anywhere from 10 or 15 miles all the way up to 100 or more miles.

The Ride

So the ride today started off much earlier than yesterday and I was able to finish without running out of daylight and needing to use my lights to get back to the car. This in and of itself is a great thing and a huge accomplishment.

Otherwise the ride was filled with a ton of single-track and a lot of elevation changes and the majority of those were uphill and very steep, rocky, sandy, washed-out or a combination of all those.there were several areas that I was unable to actually pedal up so I had to get off my bike and walk for a few feet to maybe a few hundred feet. Not the most exciting thing to do when you're supposed to be out mountain biking but you do what you have to do to get up the climb.

I ended up riding on several different single tracks during the day. I was on both Evans and Keystone Canyons as well as another by the name of Total Recall which I was on for quite a while and honestly that was one of the steepest. There were of coarse a bunch of others including the UNR mountain bike downhill trail.

I have no idea how cyclist go down that trail at speed. Mainly because it has this giant drop off that there is no way in hell I would do, ever - period! Hell, even the area next to the drop-off it's completely crazy nearly a 70° angle and on top of that massive boulders and slippery so one mistake and you're on your ass and probably in the hospital. I walked down that one and I left no pride behind doing so.if that one is for the guys and or gals with the big guys then so be it.

After a lot more rocks and sandy, rocky washed-out downhill I eventually ended up at a familiar trail, Evans trail. This trail leads me back through the canyon and eventually to the parking lot where my car was waiting for me. I was happy to be back and in one piece.

Back Home

Back home I am fairly tired and my legs are already showing the signs of what I put them through today. Same thing goes for my right me I could not help but to continue banging on the bar of the bike. It should have a decent bruise by tomorrow morning based on how it looks and feels at the moment. As if all of that was not enough my face seems a bit sunburned as well which is annoying since I put on high SPF sunblock.

So now it will be time for dinner and kicking back for a little while before hitting bed. I had to do a lot of thinking on the way home to determine if I am really into the mountain biking as much as I thought I was going to be.

I keep tossing back-and-forth the idea that I may be better off to invest that money into a nice trainer that I have been eying or maybe another road bike?

More on this as it develops of course. I have no idea at this point what I'm going to do, I just know the satisfaction after the ride isn't the same on the mountain bike compared to the road bike and that's the exact opposite of what I thought the case would be.

With that, Cicely just walked back in the house with dinner - we are being bad and having Taco Bell for dinner. No big deal, I burned a shxt-load of calories in the mountains today.
