Today is already Friday and to be perfectly honest I am not ready for it. I have a ton of things that I need to get done at work that I have either just barely started or need to simply have an hour to wrap up the details.
I never thought that being in management I would always be so far behind on everything. I pride myself on being extremely organized and having the natural ability to get shxt done on-time or ahead of time with the utmost quality. So far my quality has not suffered and I feel most other things are going well, it's the time portion that is hurting.
This week for example I feel like a total slug. Because of the weather, well the smoke from the fires in California, I have not been able to ride after work. Because work has been so busy I have not been able to hit the gym more than twice the entire week and one of them was cut short because of a meeting that popped up that day. Because of that I was only able to get about 30 minute in on the elliptical and call it a day.
Today I need to buckle down and see what I can get done. I have 2 reviews that I already need to do that are waiting in my inbox and a slew of other things in my personal inbox that all require my undivided attention .
Sure I will get there but it will take some serious focus and that is not easy to do in a game studio. There are always cube visitors, fires that spark up or meetings that require my attendance and input. No complaints, I enjoy it very much - I simply want to do a better job of being on time with certain deliverables. From what I hear it's a problem everyone has in management so you would think that would be the identifier and reason for a discussion on how to improve it.
Cicely's New Toy
So Cicely is the lucky one today and gets to go to the Apple Store as soon as she has a free moment and pick up her new iPhone 6 plus. I am jealous because I was supposed to get mine first or at least at the same time but when we were ordering them apples online shopping cart would not let you add more than one at a time. Well let me rephrase you could add more than one at a time and set everything up but when you went to check out it within yell at you.
So by the time I was able to pull mine out of the cart, complete her transaction go back through the store and get all of my stuff set up and verified my particular color was no longer available for the early pre-order so I have to wait until the first week of October. Luckily I can't use the phone at work until that around that time-frame anyhow because our I.S. department has to approve the new version of the operating system, iOS 8.
I would go crazy otherwise waiting with the phone in my possession and not being able to start to use it. On the plus side if things I can go ahead and help Cicely set hers up which will pacify the playtime with the gadget I require as a total tech-junky!
A Ride Looks Doubtful
As mentioned it's super smokey out still today and I am not sure if it will be wise to go for a ride or not after work. More than likely it will not be the smart thing to do. I may not be able to hit the gym because of my workload but I may need to just to stay ahead of the fitness 8 ball that I maintain.
I have plans to do some end of summer yard work in the bushes and evergreens this weekend so that will be some decent exercise for me. Although by no means as fun as going for a long bike ride!
I signed up for the challenge again this month because I really want to be able to get 85+ miles in one ride so that it unlocks the ability to purchase the cool shirt for the month. This time it's not a jersey like the awesome one I was awarded last month for achieving my goals. But with the shirt I can wear it more often than the jersey.
Not to forget to mention that when wearing them you have the Strava haters and their goal is to hate on you for being involved in Strava in anyway. To them it makes the sport or leisurely hobby more about technology and winning vs. enjoying rides and friends. I disagree entirely and I think that way of thinking is stupid, whatever keeps you motivated is a good thing.
Who gives a shxt if it's also including challenges, fastest speeds on segments and that sort of thing. I think that is a really good thing to add a social aspect to it to help motivate, find new rides or people to ride with if that is your thing. I am more of a loner when I ride and prefer that over groups. No reason really other than I don't feel obligated to do more or less than I want to on a particular day.
This simply points out more and more that I need to get a indoor trainer for days like this. During the winter there will be many more for sure. Whether too cold or too dark out after work. The last thing I want to have to do is start over again when spring gets here each year.
Alright Then
I think that is good for today. Jumping back into the mess of work that needs to be done and see if I can manage to get ahead of some of it without the need for lugging it all home over the weekend. Something that I don't mind doing on occasion but would prefer to never have to do so my brain can chill from work related topics for a couple days.
Anyway, if you are getting a new phone today congrats! I can't wait to get mine and begin using it and getting use to the massive size of it. It will be awkward at first but in the end very cool just like when I first started using my iPhone 5.
Cicely is going to absolutely live hers. Not only is it new but faster, bigger, more features and so on. She has been using her painfully slow 4 for a long time and really deserves something new. She issues her phone so often it makes sense to get her the very best I can.
I don't know if I ever mentioned it or not. I ended up getting her the gold model of the iPhone 6 Plus, 128GB model. Then until she finds a case she wants to bling out I got her a Rose colored leather case. Sure it was $49 for a case that is basically cardboard wrapped with a very minuscule amount of leather but it's protection! I already watched a video this morning where a kid was being interviewed after getting his new phone and guess what - he friggin' dropped the dam thing - doh! Sucks to be him :D butterfingers at the worst time!
Alright this time for real! Have a great day and if it happens to be your Friday I hope that it's a great one. If you plan to go out drinking with your buddies do us all a favor and don't be stupid enough to drive. The last thing you want to do is ruin your life or someone else's because of your lack of common sense!
Photo: Cicely's new iPhone showed up today and she was able to go down to the Apple store and pick it up after lunch. Took her about 2 hours total because of the lines but she has it now, and we are just getting ready to set it up tonight for her. Fun stuff, I am looking forward to it!
