Leadership; Day 1

So it's up and out of bed about 2 hours earlier than usual today. We have to get to work so I can start my day a little bit ahead of schedule, wrap up a few things and then dive into day 1 of 3 of the required leadership training classes I have to take at work.

First Things First

I need to wish my dad a very happy birthday today! He is turning 74 and I am sure would not want me to be announcing that on the internet. It's all good, if you met him you would have no clue of his age. He is and always has been young at heart and I am pretty sure that between him and my mom that is where I get the same characteristic. Anyway, HAPPY BIRTHDAY POPS! I hope it's a great one and you get some good eats, gifts and/or whatever you are looking for today!

Class

As I write this part of the entry I am actually on break from class and eating some lunch at my desk. I needed to get away from the classroom for an hour and see some other scenery. I also like to use the excuse of walking from one side of the building to the other so I get my steps in for the day. Otherwise sitting in a classroom all day does not burn any calories to speak of.

When we get breaks I make sure to walk around and stretch my legs of course but that is still a very small amount of movement compared to my usual workout I would do around mid-day. To counter this even more I have a smaller lunch and try to not indulge in any snacks that are available at times during these classes. Thankfully this class does not have snacks at every table. Otherwise that gets to be a little too tempting when you hit 2 or 3 o'clock in the afternoon.

How's It Going?

So the class is going much better than anticipated. I mean I had no reason to believe that it would not be a great class and that I would or would not learn anything. I knew that I would take away a lot of knowledge and the funny part is that I am actually able to relate a lot of it to my classes that I am taking up at UNR, but putting those lessons into context for my company specifically.

Tomorrow is another full day of class and then on Thursday we are supposed to have a full day as well but according to the instructor we generally get out around 1:00 in the afternoon. That would be really cool actually and I hope that is the case for our class.

Back To It

OK I am going to cut it short for today and finish up my lunch, make a phone call to dad and then start the long walk back down to the training center. If I worked in a department that required me to walk from one side of the building to the other I would get my steps in by noon most days. I forget how big this place is until I have to walk down to one end or the other for something - which is not very often. It's also the reason they have bikes for those that do have to day in and day out.

Anyway, I hope this Tuesday is treating you fair and you are getting out of it what you are putting into it at the very least. If not, hang tight - things will come around. Heck look at my situation, the company is in the news everywhere about us being sold, possibly split up as well as layoffs and the normal crap. I for one hope that none of it goes down. The last thing that I want to be doing at this point in my life is job hunting!
