Check The Box

Well I am happy to report that the 3 days of leadership development skills is finally behind me and I can put that training to rest and start implementing the things that I took away from the 3 days. Surprisingly, much more than I thought that I was going to take-away which is always a great thing to be able to report after several days away from the usual day-to-day, learning something new.

Today it's back to business as usual and to get back into the groove of things. I need to get my ass down to the gym as well because I have managed to miss 3 days this week because of classes. Not a huge deal because I did still get well over 10,000 steps each day and did treadmill cardio several days. I tried to get into the gym yesterday because class let out a little early, unfortunately meetings came up once the word got out that I was out of class. One of which lasted just under 3 hours!

Policies Policies

So not only are there plenty of distractions in the news regarding rumors of a potential sale of my company, all of which we still no nothing about internally and for good reason. I learned that there are many ramifications if people were to disclose anything, start rumors and so on. I am sure there are people talking but to what extent other than what the media is assuming or speculating no one really knows anything.

Anyway, my point is that on top if this I found out yesterday in my 3 hour meeting that we will be rolling out a new policy next week that has been in the works for some time I guess. I can't say what it is at this time of course, especially in case a friend or family member happens to read my dailies.

It's one of those things that big corporations have to do to protect themselves and individuals as well. Unfortunately on the flip side it will potentially affect a lot of the current and long term employees of the company.

Not that it's some giant OMG what is happening to this place type of addition but in a weird sort of way it is because the negative news just keeps on coming and we as employees lose more and more every year. Many of the key things that made us want to work for the company, give them 5, 10, 15, 20 and some even 30 years of their lives and hard work everyday. I know that I fall into that category, I wanted to work there not only to make games for a living but because of the environment as well.

So with change will come even more duties by me to keep everyone in a calm state of mind and focused on the work we have in front of us. There is unfortunately not much else that we can do short of finding another place of employment - something I would rather not do. I don't think it's "that bad" at the company and in reality it could always be much worse.

Whether we all agree with these decisions or not, it's something we have to live with or move on. I for one am more than willing to ride out this tough water that has been coming our way off and on since 2009 and hope things get better as well as do my part to try and make them better as well.

Otherwise

Not a whole lot else going on today. Going into the studio early to be able to sneak out a little early and get into the weekend. I need to catch up on rest as I have not been sleeping much and have been going non-stop both mentally and physically lately.

I do plan on a couple bike rides this weekend and to try out my new Garmin 1000 as well which should be cool. Otherwise it will be family time and catching up.

Oh and my new 3D printer should be here at some point? I am not sure why it has not shown up yet? They said mid-June but my guess is they were overwhelmed with orders and it will be the end of June or possibly later. No big rush, just excited to have it arrive.

Anyway that will officially end it for today. This time for real, I won't continue to rabble on - ha ha. Have a great Friday and a smooth roll into your weekend if you are off work the next couple days!

Photo: Walking into the studio today I took a quick photo. Then decided to mess with it when I had a few minutes waiting for a large group of copies to complete. Turned out cool I think.
