It actually worked out great because I was mowing the lawn and they literally drove up as I was blowing the clippings off the driveway and sidewalk. Took me less than 5 minutes to get everything put away and I was inside visiting. They of course already had Zoey and were smothering her with hugs, kisses and chatter - something she loves.
Sweet Home?
While dad and Cyndi were visiting I knew that something else was up. I could sense it the past few weeks and ever since I had heard that their neighbor and good friend was moving half way across the United States from here. They mentioned that they have been seriously looking at houses and locations in Alabama to potentially move to. While it sucks in a purely selfish way if they move I really was not completely caught off guard and surprised by it.
There are a lot of pros to them living there vs. being here in Nevada. First off they wont have to deal with the winters that they have to deal with here. They do have to deal with some of the tropical storms that come inland from the coast but those are generally few and far between - the really bad ones at least and most homes and people are prepared for them simply because they know that there is a possibility for them to pop up.
Whats more is that with my dad not working and being retired and my step-mom having issues with her job being extremely crazy right now and looking for excuses to fire people she is always worried day to day if she will have a job at the end of that week, day or hour by hour some days. Moving there would give them the ability to not have to have a particular job, just something with benefits to cover any medical needs or prescriptions they take. It would take a huge burden off of them both and make life in general that much better.
So while I am bummed to hear the news and would be even more-so if and when it actually happens there is a much more positive side to the move so that is the focus I zoom in on. Big picture it gives us a place to visit and if we ever do the RV road trip that I would like to do one day it gives us a direction to head on the way to the East coast, visiting all the tourist stops on the way. More on this later should things start to develop. Right now it's mostly an idea and something they are looking into to figure out the feasibility of it all.
Cubed
Back to work today obviously - it's Monday and back to a normal week of work. Last week was really nice because it was only 4 days because of the Monday holiday, although as I mentioned last Friday it was the longest short week in a long time.
This week looks "decent" so far if I go purely by my calendars. I can only hope that it stays that way and I can get a lot of stuff done that has been falling off the radar more and more. Tomorrow I have school and I also have to go up and pay off my new road bike so I hope I can get out of class at 4:30 like many of the instructors will do for us.
Diving In
Alright, that is it for me today. Have a great start to the week and ease into it t he best you can. That is what I plan to do so the week does not get the better of me. Worst case you will be home in a few hours and can forget about it all and try again tomorrow.
Photo: This was the view a few weeks ago when leaving class up at UNR. The weather has finally turned into summer and the rain, snow and related is behind us. At least until we start getting our freak summer rain and hail storms.
