Have An Extra Billion Lying Around?
So it's a bright new day and really there is not a whole lot going on as far as my calendar is concerned. At the end of the week I will be in class up at UNR but otherwise things are fairly quiet.
Although I guess quiet can be taken many different ways and this may be one if those times that quiet means something more along the lines of "the calm before the storm".
What do I mean by this you ask? Well yesterday afternoon a bunch of people started sharing a post from the invest website that goes by the name Market Watch. This article / post was only a couple paragraphs long but hit home for every single one of us in the company. The news article stated that my company was potentially going up for sale and that the thought of doing so has been in the works for 2 months already.
Normally I would chalk it up to rumors and possibly bad media coverage or interpretation of something. Problem is that this time they stated that my company hired the firm Morgan Stanley to evaluate and possibly handle things should this go forward. I just don't see my company spending that kind of money as a propaganda vehicle but I am sure that stranger things have happened via the minds of executives, shareholders, board members and related in other companies as well as my company.
The odd part is that it seems no one in the company knows much about it and the article was the eye opener for most to hear the news. Even at director levels it seems no on is talking or really can at this point. I dunno, I would think that the CEO would want to let the company know this kind of thing rather than stumble upon the news one afternoon.
At this time there is no other information about it. Details like who may be interested in it, what the asking price will be and what, if any, safeguards are in place for those of us working there. I guess I will know more slowly but surely. And ridiculously many will know more than I will if they read the articles before I happen upon them. In my opinion that is not the way we should be finding this information out, but it is what it is and we need to hang tight. Not much else that we can do.
Sell, Sell, Sell
Alright I will end today's post on that "happy note". I am worried a bit once again about the future now that this news is out there. You just never know what these people are going to do if they take over a company. At times they will fly in and remove all middle management, reorganize the executive teams and other leadership and go from there.
My guess is that we are not the easiest company to purchase as you really have to know the business in many ways, but maybe not - if your pockets are deep enough it's just a matter of having the correct team supporting you.
More on all of this later I would imagine. For now I plan to go into work and try to ignore this outside noise and try to do like always and kick some ass, have fun while doing so and move on with my day.
