Anyone that reads my entries or that knows me understands my hate for lab day. It goes by quickly and is not really that big of a deal but it does not mean that I have to enjoy being stuck by a needle at 7 in the morning on a Tuesday.
Anyway I figured that rather than wait until we were up and headed to work I would let Cizzle sleep in a little and I would brush my teeth and run down to have it taken care of. I am typing this as I wait in the short line of 5 people, including myself. It's taking a little bit of time because of the fact that there is only one person working the desk and they only get people into the queue from the line as they check-in those that have appointments. Completely fair and understandable.
Let's hope that after this I am able to get in and get everything done. I am only 2 back in line now so here's to hoping I made the right decision to get this taken care of bright and early.
So far so good, I was able to get checked into the system so I could get in for labs in-between those that have appointments this morning. I had no idea that I could make an appointment for this lab otherwise I would have went that route as I usually do.
No matter it was not a bad wait to get up to the check-in, probably 10 or 15 minutes total. Now I sit waiting to go in for the poke which will only be another 10 minutes if I had to guess based on the speed of those in front of me. Ooop, there is my name being called now, gotta run.....
Meetings
In other news work should be nothing more than a day of meetings once again. That seems to be becoming more of the normal thing lately in my new position as a manager. I need to just get use to that part of the new role. I don't mind it whatsoever it's just the old stigma I have about meetings from when I was in an individual contributor role. When you are developing, meetings are a real draw from an otherwise productive day.
So far it's actually a lot of fun being able to take part in so many different games and the day-to-day of others development. Don't get me wrong when I say "fun" I am not implying easy because it's nothing of the sort and actually weighs pretty heavy on the mind to make it all happen in a 8 hour day, but somehow I manage each and every day.
Still, there is a lot to learn but it has been great so far. There are a lot of things that I need to get a grip on to better facilitate my team and earn the respect that I deserve from each of them. It will happen in time and I will also work to better respect each of them for both their strengths and weaknesses so we can harness each based on the tasks at hand and of course our demanding schedule.
Outta Here
That will have to do it for today. My appointment went fast thankfully and did not hurt one bit when she jammed the needle into my vein. I did get a big bump for some reason after I got home but I think that was because I did not apply enough pressure to the area after the needle was removed. It is looking better already, but not great. I have a feeling that it will bruise pretty good and eventually go away by the weekend. Either way the test is done and I am ready for my appointment next Monday.
Photo: Cicely's table of plants that she has inherited over the years at work. People either left the company or just abandoned the plants so she stepped up and took care of them and has been working ever since to keep them alive and well.
