Birthing Class, Day 5; Last Class

So today is finally the last class for our weekly birthing classes. It has been five weeks and two hours of class every week but totally worth it. Anyone that is planning to have kids or is currently pregnant I would highly recommend the classes. If for nothing else it does put your mind at ease and teach you a lot of the basics that you probably forgot from sex-ed or those you may have never really grasp at the time.

It has been a lot of fun and I'm curious to see what tonight's class will have in store for us. I have heard that some teachers bring in fake babies, a.k.a. dolls, to the final class and you learn to change a diaper - that will be fun if so. It has been so long since I've changed a diaper I don't even know if I remember.

Oh actually I do know that our pediatrician happens to be the guest speaker tonight so that will be cool. We interviewed her about a month and a half back and were really impressed with her practice, her staff and herself. I have heard it can be difficult to find a pediatrician that you are comfortable with but we lucked out and found one right away thanks to some suggestions from friends that are also pregnant or just had babies recently.

It's okay my calendar does not free up because of this next week I start school which will be two days eight hours each and that will fill in the gap for not having baby classes I guess.

Development

So last night I had to do something that was extremely difficult and one of the harder things that I have had to do only a couple weeks into my management career. Basically without getting into too much detail I had to write up a document that essentially describes the performance of one of my team members that is under performing consistently.

Unfortunately this team member requires additional help on a daily basis that he should not require at this point in time in his career. Based on how long he has been with the company the majority of this assistance should be things that come second nature to him. The company has been amazing and has gone above and beyond to try to get him the help he needs. Everything from men touring to peer-reviewed use as well as training and tutorials at his disposal. I personally think there is just a lack of desire and there's not much you can do about that that is up to the individual.

No matter I don't know where it goes from here but I can only hope that something clicks and this person turns it around. Otherwise the only thing I could imagine would be that HR would suggest termination which I would hate to see for anyone. I guess I am softer that way because I realize everyone needs a job. But on the flip side he has been given so many chances and opportunities whereas most companies would simply terminate employment at the first couple signs of a problem especially if the person was not showing the desire to work extra or harder to accomplish goals to fix the problems at hand.

That is about all I can rabble about this today. When it comes to work related stuff like this there is not a lot I can get into as far as details. But it's nice to have in my blog nonetheless to reflect back on. I will know who it was and there is no need for other people to know who it is specifically.

Otherwise

It is camel day, a.k.a. hump day, which means the middle of the week. It has already went by extremely fast in part due to my 10 hour workdays. I hope that it will all slow down a bit soon but if not at least it's making time go by fast and I am learning a shxt ton of stuff.

Have a great day whatever it is you are doing!
