Class; Day 1

So today marks the first of my classes for the certificate program that I am attending over the next several months. I think it will be a great learning experience as well as a little bit of fun. These types of classes always force you to get out of your comfort zone a little bit and do a little public speaking, working in groups and that sort of thing. My hope is that I get a good deal out of the class and that it is money well spent.

We already had homework that we are to bring to the first class and it totally reminds me of the classes that we do at work that help us to determine what type of person we are. Meaning if we are more structured, like an engineer or more organic and a go with the flow type of personality and mindset more like an artist would be. I have a feeling that this class will be very similar to those but I could very well be wrong and the test was merely a stepping stone for the teacher and us to find out where we fall in management when using those techniques.

More on class possibly later today if I have the time, otherwise I will have something to talk about in tomorrows entry I am almost certain. My hope is that the day goes well and that I am able to gain some skills and techniques from this class and all future classes I attend for the management certificate I am working toward.

Wind, Wind, Wind

So the weather guessers are predicting even more wind today in the valley, oh joy! Yesterday was not too bad, mostly gusts of wind and not major blowing for lengths of time. The fence on the side yard that I am always bitching about is still looking pretty shabby and the giant friggin steel bar that my neighbor thought was "a good idea" to hold the fence up is still there and I still don't understand the lack of logic behind using it. No matter, we are supposed to have lots of wind and gusts today and tomorrow so lets hope that the fence does not come crashing down on the shed.

Leadership Gathering

Once out of school this afternoon I have to go kill about an hour which I will probably do over at Starbucks up by school because there is free Wi-Fi. I have to meet the rest of the leadership team over at a local pub to have drinks and some dinner.

We are basically all welcoming in a few of the new leaders as well as potentially myself. I would much rather go home today after being in class all day but at the same time it will do good to rub elbows a bit with the rest of the leadership team because I only know them currently based on personalities and related through work. You can learn a lot just by having lunch or a few drinks with people.

It should be a good time I just don't want to get drunk or stay out too late because I have a presentation to do in the morning. The last thing I need to do is have the presentation be complete shit or worst-case me feel like complete shit when giving it.

School Update

Just wanted to give a quick update on school today. The class was a lot of fun and the teacher was really awesome and fun to follow. There was a ton of interaction, more than I have ever had in any class. Everyone in the class was very cool and participated equally which was nice. Sometimes with this type of class you get a few that participate and that is about it.

The cool thing is this teacher makes it so everyone feels that it's okay to participate or to be wrong or whatever which is great. No one is judgmental or anything like that in the class and everyone is there for the same reason which makes it nice.

I am totally looking forward to tomorrow's class, other than having to give my 2 minute presentation. All-in-all it should not be "that difficult", and really what is 2 minutes? It goes by so fast you don't even realize it. I just have to get my shxt together and have it ready. More on that tomorrow. I am considering doing this cool trick that makes it easy to do a Windsor knot for a tie and use that as my presentation - we will see how it goes. As I said, more on that tomorrow.
