Strange Surge

After a really nice weekend of warm weather and too many events to count on one hand it's once again the start of a brand new week. This week is supposed to be more of the same as far as the weather goes, that-is at least up until Thursday when it's supposed to start getting cold again according to the weather guessers.

The guess that came across the news this morning is that there will be snow in the mountains starting Wednesday night and rain down here in the valley late Wednesday or into Thursday if the storm does not make it on time; of course this is all based on whether or not their predictions are accurate. They are guessing that it will last through the weekend or at least until Saturday.

I don't mind, I mean I like the warmer weather MUCH better that we have been having the past few days but a little more moisture will keep everyone calm this summer when they start complaining about it being a drought year and begin to initiate watering restrictions.

Surged

Here I am this morning waking up slowly and getting into the groove. A few minutes after feeding Oggy I was enjoying my first few sips of coffee and getting some yogurt and granola ready when a bright light flashed in the house like the power was surging. "Well that was odd" I thought. Nothing beeped or made a sound as though it had been affected until further investigation.

What's this? No internet connection? Ok I can handle no lights for a little bit but no internet, that is where I draw the line people!

So as mentioned the lights, furnace and everything were working fine but all of the plugs going into the battery backup were the items not powered on. Ok must be the back-up right? Actually no because 1/2 of the items plugged in were ok, namely the ones plugged into the surge only side, not the battery side.

This would lead you to believe that the battery must be dead but upon unplugging the battery from the wall all of the devices kicked in via battery power. Ok that is just odd. Maybe the outlet is messed up or the circuit breaker outside is thrown? I checked the breakers and they were all fine. Came back in and grabbed my electrical tools and checked the outlets and they too were fine.

Getting a little stumped I decided to verify that the surge protector that was plugged into the battery backup was ok and it too was fine. Oh and before you yell at me I know, you are not supposed to put surge protectors into most battery backups but I guarantee you 90% or more do exactly that. There just aren't enough plugs otherwise people!

Anyway all of that was fine and working. I had Cicely looking online (thank you 4G LTE) and there was not any information on this so once again I turned off the battery, unplugged every plug and restarted up the battery. I let it run it's self test and then began plugging things back in one by one and what do you know, one by one they began to power on.

Yea sorry if you were looking for a fix for the exact same problem you came to the wrong place. I have no clue what worked other than the second power cycle with no items plugged in.

I did move nearly everything off of the surge protector power strip that was plugged into the battery "just in case". Should this happen again I will at least know it is not culprit.

I am a happy camper now. I have my internet back up and online. My cameras for security and so on are all up and working as well, the ones that relay on that power anyway - you think I would really use only one power source for everything? C'mon now I know better than that when taking security and redundancy. No matter all is well and I can go to work without worrying about dealing with it tonight, yippee!

Photo: Awesome case of VOSS water Cicely picked up for me yesterday while she was out shopping with her step-mom Kay and sister Miranda. Cicely knows how much I love VOSS water. I am not sure if it's because it reminds me of a particular memory we share, or if it's just "that good". I am going with "all of the above" for my answer. Oh and yes, a case consists of 2 bottles in this case. It's not inexpensive water especially when in the glass bottles like these.
