Shuffling The Deck

For a day that started out extremely mellow - thanks in part to a traffic-free commute to the office it immediately ramped up the minute I walked through the doors of my game studio. What a roller coaster ride the first 3/4 of the day turned out to be.

"Opportunities"

In business we are taught to call things of yesterday's nature "opportunities" no matter how disruptive or destructive they may feel at the time in which that they are offered brought to ones attention. Unfortunately I cant go into any details in my blog for various reasons regarding my opportunity and even if I did/could it would not make sense to most readers - well, unless you worked with me and then you would already know what kinds of things are in the pipeline.

Wow, exciting reading I know! I guess this is meant to be more of a decompression post for my sanity. The 10,000 foot view of what is going on is that there will be some special teams setup in our game studio as well as some rearranging of the current teams to accommodate those aforementioned teams. In reality it's a pretty cool thing for those involved but I think that it's more the fact that everything has seemed to be going along smooth the past couple years and therefor many of us are confused as to why the executives and directors would want to reshuffle the deck? Maybe that is why I am not an executive, I dunno.

I can only imagine that there is a much bigger picture that we are not seeing while down in the trenches making games, but maybe not. No matter, I look at things like this as one more challenge - aka "an opportunity". My team as well as the other teams that are directly involved in the changes will make the entire thing shine with little to no resistance! That is my big picture plan anyway, and we all know that everything "always" goes as planned. One huge benefit of working alongside so many talented people is that things actually do seem to work themselves out in the end and in a positive manner so why should this situation be any different. Everyone realizes there is no real need to worry about change, we let our talents take care of it and the results speak for themselves.

Afternoon Surprise

As I write this I received an email regarding some executive projects that will be put in place in the coming months. We will be having what we call an "all hands meeting" at 3:00 to be given the details of these projects and those that will be directly involved. If appropriate I may add an update to this entry later tonight for my own historical purposes as it will be of little interest to anyone that is outside of my game studio or company.

My initial guess is that it will be a brain-dump of the things that are already in motion and to bring the entire studio up to speed. This way no-one feels as though they were left in the dark, and it stomps any vicious rumors that tend to spread like wildfire with change. When in reality it's not that big of a deal - but the game of "telephone" has it's inherit curse to blow it out of proportion if it was allowed to get to that stage. I am thankful my company does it's best to keep everyone in the know and everyone has a voice. Seems like that strategy is getting to be more rare in businesses - it's unfortunate really.

Onward

For me it's time to take care of my afternoon cardio and strength training workouts before diving into this afternoons newly added meetings. It is shaping up to be a rather interesting week, I can only imagine what surprises the remainder of the month and year will bring - keeps it interesting!
