Lights In The Sky

Another great morning to wake up to - blue skies and sunshine (but still pretty cold). Cicely and I were unfortunately up at 3:30 when the fuzzy kid, Oggy, decided it was as good of a time as any to do some cleaning, hacking and tossing and turning. Cicely got up and had him drink some water, and gave him a couple Cheerio's and they came back to bed and fell asleep within minutes. I on the other-hand tossed and turned for about an hour until finally dozing back off.

Nights Sky

So Cicely has quite the imagination and likes to believe in certain things as well as study those things that some people might say you are crazy for believing in. She will stare into a dark sky for hours wondering what is up there and theorizing on each and every twinkle or movement. Planes that pass by ever-so-quietly and helicopters from the nearby military base all peak her curiosity and imagination. I love it about her and I think it's also why she is so talented and creative. She can look at something in ways most others cannot, and take it one step further by making something more out of it. So cool!

Most nights after work we get home and settle-in for a few and try to decompress from the workday and the commute home. We go through the mail and chase Oggy around the house then either one of us or both of use will take him for a walk. Longer walks during the summer but we try to get something in during the winter as well so he gets some exercise and does not go crazy being inside the house all of the time. As we walk Cicely is constantly looking to the sky and doing her normal "what is that", "look did you see that" and so on. She has told me countless times about these lights that float more than fly and sorta bobble a bit as they pass-by only to eventually fade to nothingness. More like a light-bulb going out slowly vs. something going out of range of sight.

I always smile and try to tell her what I think it is, a helicopter, a plane that is really high up and has changed direction so you no longer see the bright light and so on. She always argues that there is no sound, no flashing lights as you would see on planes or helicopters, pure silence. Eventually dismissing the conversation because of her sensing some disbelief on my part I think. I guess disbelief is not the right term, I do think there is "something" else "out there" and she knows it, but the way my brain is wired I need additional proof I guess. Where she can use these things as a means to a belief and to better progress and form facts from any theories, nothing wrong with that.

Well last night when we stopped to get the mail she hastily had me get out of the car and look up into the nights sky with her. To her excitement and my amazement I will say that for the first time I saw one of her bright floaty things in the sky. She was right, no noise at all, no flashy lights, sorta bobble as it floated. Was it a weather balloon? I dunno, seemed too low to be something like that to be honest. We watched for a few moments, then got in the car and drove up to the house and into the driveway. As I was getting out of the car she was hollering at me to look quickly because from her experience it's about to fade away. I quickly got out of the car and the bright light did just that in seconds, totally faded into the nights sky as though it never was there in the first place. Ok, weird and cool and yea, I guess I should believe my wife more often - nah, what fun is that!

We obviously have no idea what it was and we did talk about it more while making dinner, feeding Oggy and the other nightly duties. One thing that's for sure, I don't think I will be able to walk Oggy anymore at night without looking up into the nights sky in hopes of seeing another one of those shiny bright wobbly things in hopes of figuring out what it really is. If nothing else, it is something that we both now have and can share no matter where we may be. Sometimes just feeling like you are looking at the same moon or lights in the sky is comforting. Whether you are standing next to one another or on the other side of the world. Thanks for that Cizzle!

Fade Away

That is all for today. It's funny that this all started because I was trying to get a good shot of the amazing moon coming up from behind the mountains last night. Cicely trying to help and ending up seeing one of the things she keeps telling me about, desperately trying to make me a believer. Well as of yesterday I am. Wonder if I get a patch for my jacket or anything? Guess I better ask! But in all seriousness it was super cool and I am glad we got to share the sight together and I hope we see more in the future (unless they are friggin' drones spying on us!).

In summers past there were what I like to refer to as "the magic frogs" that her and Oggy see on their walks, and surprisingly never when I am with them, hmm, curious - or eyes playing tricks? For now, I will end it here and save that one for another day.
