Here we are, the 25th of December and one of the holidays the the vast majority of people look forward to for the year.
The White Stuff
According to the weather guessers we were almost certainly in store for a white Christmas this year. I on the other hand did not think we had the necessary weather to have snow in the valley.
Yesterday afternoon I thought for sure I was going to be proven wrong as the rain and wind continued to pick up and the temperatures dropped. Around 5:00 it was finally snowing and sticking although nothing more than a dusting.
By 8 or 9 everything was already starting to dry up and the snow was no longer coming down. The little bit that was left made for slightly icy conditions but nothing too horrific. My sister, brother in law and nephews had a long drive home and to a much higher elevation.
Thankfully the snow stopped up there because they tend to get a ton compared to us. Instead they had more ice and slippery conditions but made it home safe and sound.
Croatian Tradition
Last night we had our traditional Croatian dinner over at dads and it was great. Dad is usually hard on himself and always thinks that it turned out just 'okay'. It was the exact opposite and actually awesome. I had to have two bowls and usually I will stop at one.
Zoey had her first taste of cabbage rolls, better know by their actual name - sarma. We though for sure there was no way that she would like it and boy were we proven wrong. She absolutely loved it and ate a decent amount. We even tried her on the meat that goes inside of the rolls again thinking there is no way she will eat it because she is not a huge meat fan unless it's in her baby food. I think it's more bland so she likes the flavor. Again proven wrong because she ate quite a bit of that as well.
All in all a great night oh and the Dom Perignon champagne that Kelly and Dan brought over was great as well. At $150 a bottle I usually don't buy it but probably would now that I have had it again. In the past I was always fairly drunk before having it so it's much more difficult to determine if it hits your palette the right way. I am happy to say that it did, the $150 a bottle is the only unfortunate part. It's cheaper than my scotch though which is 150-$300 a bottle.
So yea as I said it was a great night and I had a great time and I think that everyone else did as well.
Crawling
So last night Zoey finally did her very first crawl or at least what we would consider a crawl. She did a 1 or 2 step move forward then a good 4 crawls backwards to get over to her next present.
That was it for her Christmas Day crawling sessions. Hopefully by New Years she will have another good crawling session that will lead into a full time crawling ability. Of course my bet is that once she starts crawling and eventually walking we will both wish we still had the time to leave her sit for a few to play versus us chasing her all over the house to see what she is getting into or messing up.
Cicely's Parents
So today we headed over to Cicely's parents house for Zoey to have Christmas with them and get some yummy Christmas dinner. I don't think that I have seen her eat that much food in a long time that's for sure. Really it was probably not as much as we thought because it was small bits here and there.
Once done she was able to get some of the caramel apple pie for dessert. She had some from us, some from grandma Kay and of course everyone else that had a spoonful ready for her.
All in all a lot of fun for everyone and Zoey had a lot of fun playing with all of her new toys and jibber jabbing with everyone that she does not get to see very often. Something we need to change and try to get her out and about more often.
Cizzle & Trouble
So Cicely and I intentionally kept our Christmas gifts small this year because we do so much for each other all year long. This year was no different but I think we both did really good.
I ended up getting a pair of cycling socks that I wanted, a new pair of cycling bib shorts with new style of chamois I wanted to try out for the long distance rides that I do during the summer. She also got me a Pabst Blue Ribbon cycling hat that I have been wanting for a while so I am pretty stoked.
For Cicely I picked up a few new pairs of socks - one has a bacon and eggs design, another has a My Little Pony design and then one with a hamburger design all really cool. Then I got her a shirt that she has been wanting from a designer she likes a lot and last a journal for her designs in 2015.
All Said & Done
All said and done it was a really good day and a great Christmas with everyone as well as at home. Christmas Eve was more of the same so we are all fat, happy and spoiled. Now I need to get my ass on the bike the next couple days and weeks and work off some of this extra food that I have been shoving into my face. Thankfully I have been good about my portions and stuff and so it should not be too difficult to get the extra pounds off of my waistline for the coming summer cycling season.
Merry Christmas and happy holidays to everyone. I hope you had the day that you hoped it would be spending it with family and friends close by.
Photo: Today we woke up to signs that Santa was in fact at the house along with his reindeer.
