Cold & Windy

So just as the post title says, today was mega cold and super windy all day. It was so windy in fact that the snow started to blow away from the areas that it was accumulated in and cause drifts in various places around the house. This, while cool looking, made it a little bit of a pain in the ass to shovel because the areas in the front that had the most drifted snow were between the cars, one of the more difficult places to shovel simply because of where its at.

Shoveling

As mentioned I had to go out and shovel the front driveway as well as the sidewalk and the walkway up to the house today. This was the first time this year and would have been so much easier had it not been for the cold wind. When I say cold, I am not exaggerating either, it was so cold that it was making my face numb to the point that I would bend over and snot would come out of my nose and I would not even feel that it was running / dripping until I noticed the streamer hanging out, lovely huh? Thankfully there was no-one around to see this although now I have mentioned it on the internet so its out there in the open anyhow.

Once done it took me about an hour, maybe just a little more to get the cars cleared off as well and I also scooped the gutter a little so there would not be a big pile of ice in front of our house as the snow starts melting in the sunnier spots of the street. Speaking of which that is the shxt part for us, we have to shovel almost no matter what where-as the people across the street can simply wait for the sun to take care of it for them, especially on days like today when it was warmer mid-day.

I am just happy that it snowed while we were off work and did not have to worry about commuting in it this morning. We were able to hang out at the house, stay warm and in our comfortable clothes, have some breakfast (eggs, potato hash browns, bacon and coffee) and not worry about whether or not it would be icy, slow moving or anything. I am sure we will have our share of days this winter that are like that anyhow, but to get out of one is great - seems to always work the exact opposite.

Cycling

I was able to go for a bike ride today on the trainer and I chose to once again use the Zwift software. It was another successful training session and I feel great, but sore, after doing it. I ended up going just over 31 miles in just over 1 hour and 45 minutes time with an elevation gain of 1716'.

I cant wait until they release more courses besides the Zwift Island that is the only choice at the moment. I actually unlocked another area yesterday but I did not happen to see the option to choose it today so I may have to look a little harder. Now that I am thinking about it I am pretty sure that I know where it's at and why I missed it today.

Speaking of which, today I hit another milestone and unlocked two more jerseys in the game which is really cool. I have not checked them out yet but I will next ride so long as I can remember to. Normally by the time I get my gear on, get out there and have the software fired up I want to just start pedaling, not customizing.

A great ride though as mentioned and oh, the developers put New Year 2015 hats on the cyclist in the game to take the place of the helmets, very cool. Last time I cycled they had things like Santa and the reindeer flying around above the course, some of the underpasses were now big snowmen with the road cut out under them - really cool touch to the game.

I also noticed the scenery was different as well. The deer I had seen before was in another location and I think I only saw it on the side of the road once or twice this ride? The developers also removed this big cruise ship that was out in the bay and replaced it with some other boats and sail boats.

Again, a great touch to make the same old level feel new and exciting again. It does anyway oddly enough, I really like this setup and as I keep saying, I cant wait to see what they have next as well as what to expect once it comes out of beta!

Whelp

That will be it for today. I did manage to get several smaller things done that I have been putting off and that feels nice to have behind me. I do need to do a bunch more things but I am taking it one day at a time and at whatever pace I chose. This is our vacation and the last thing that I want to do is regret taking time to myself, playing with Zoey or hanging out with Cicely and Oggy.

No 3D printer setup yet either but I plan to do that tomorrow for sure! I have been downloading things that I want to print already so this should be cool. I also watched a video of the typical unboxing of the printer but more importantly the YouTube guy went through the entire setup of the printer as well. The great news is that it doesn't look difficult at all to setup and is actually very intuitive from what I could tell.

Heck the longest or most tedious part was waiting for him to get the firmware update installed and even that he did a quick cutaway, then back to it so it was not a big deal on the video, but I could tell it was the part of the process that took him the longest.

Okay this time for real, I need to shut this entry down for the night. Plus I thought for sure that this was going to be a short entry but whatta you know, it's easily another average size long entry. It's tough at times to figure out what to type about and then its tough to stop. I realize its not awesome, well written literature, but it's not supposed to be either.

Read it or don't, as I have always said in the past - this is mostly for my daughter should she chose to peep it one day and for me to get things out on 'paper' which really helps put things into perspective. On that note; have a great night!

Photo: The majority of it has already melted off by the time I went out to shovel the driveway, this is out back which has been in the sun all day.
