Mom-In-Law Visit, Day 3

Everyone was up and moving today about the same time, 9:00 which was a first for this week. We have all been staying up so late watching TV and movies that it was probably time we slept in a little. The Great Gatsby movie was long (about 2 hours and 22 minutes) but was worth the time investment. Much better movie than I thought it would be to be honest. There was another movie I was thinking we were going to watch (maybe tonight <wink>). No matter if you have not seen it I would say go for it. Even though it felt a bit "love-story Titanic'ish" but it still had a decent underlying story.

A few days ago we watched a movie called Cloud Atlas. It was a pretty good movie as well but I have to be honest - I was lost quite often in the movie trying to figure out what was going on. It felt like it was all over the place at times, but so long as I paid attention I would catch back up with the story. The part that blew me away the most was that the main 6 or so actors actually played multiple parts in the movie. Some played at least 4 I think, others at least 2 and I could not even tell. Cicely caught on to it pretty fast. When the credits rolled I paid close attention to the parts each actor played and it was wild to find out who was who.

More Baby Stuff

While out and about window shopping yesterday Cicely and her mom managed to fill up a few more bags worth of goodies to get us ready for babies arrival. Her mom bought us some more clothes for baby and another pack of bottles - we need bottles that's for sure! Clothes as well, we have been so focused on the big ticket items that baby will have to run around naked if we are not careful ha ha. Nah, we would not let that happen of course but we want to be as prepared as we can be with the more expensive stuff out of the way. The other stuff is much easier to get once she is here and we have a better idea of her size.

The only fear is that I sure hope the doctors and the tests are accurate that baby will be a girl. If not we will have a lot of store returns or exchanges to do straight away. I am always worried about it, but Cicely is not. I should not be either, the blood test is 99.8% accurate and the other ultrasounds that we have done show no signs of a boy.

Good Morning

Just like the rest of the week Cicely was in the kitchen making us all breakfast, I was making Oggy his breakfast and the 3 of us were all moving about getting all of our sugars, grounds and/or tea bags together for our morning cup of caffeine routine.

After breakfast it was prime time to watch some TV and wake up some more. Today was a Spanish morning TV show that Cicely's mom likes to watch. It was interesting because I could only pick up just enough Spanish to be confused lol. They talk so fast that the words I pick up seem to be just enough to be out of context to the actual conversation on the show.

Baby Doctor

Not sure what is on the schedule for the day other than the fact that we have a doctors appointment to check on babies heartbeat, mommas weight, answer questions that may have come up in the last month and that sort of thing. Should be a fast visit so long as they are not crazy busy as they are some days that we have appointments. Hopefully because it's still considered the holiday for most maybe it will not be very busy and we can be in and out in no time.

We never heard anything back from Cicely's last visit to the lab to get blood drawn to check for the diabetes that can occur if moms body is converting too much of her food intake into sugars. I guess the placenta has a lot to do with it so you have to be careful and modify your diet etc. We were told that if there was no news then it was good news and everything was OK. We did not get a phone call so that must be good news. We still have to go over it I think at the appointment though.

**Update: So the appointment was dragging BIG TIME today. We showed up on time, early actually for a change, and waited over 45 minutes just to get called into the next waiting room to do what? If you said "to wait" then ding, ding, ding you win!

Going at 1:45 in the afternoon sounded like a good idea at the time but now that we know how long it takes at afternoon appointments we are sticking to early appointments from here forward.

Now that we are in the third trimester and 30 weeks in we will have appointments every 2 weeks instead of once a month. After 3 of those we switch to appointments every week, crazy!

In a week or so our classes start so we can learn all of the baby things we may or may not know and what to expect. Then in a week or two after that we plan to take baby CPR classes as well.

Lunch

After we finally got out of the baby doctor we headed to Staples office supply to see if Cicely's mom could find a replacement for her day planner. No luck finding the replacement and by now we were all starving.

To satisfy our need for food we headed over to BJ's restaurant and had appetizers, burgers, soups and some drinks. I had a really good cider called "Berry Blast" cider that I want to have again next visit but a pint vs. a 5 oz sampler. I also ordered a Tatonka beer to go with my blue cheese burger and steak fries. The Tatonka is a dark beer that reminds me of a sweet Guinness.

All-in-all a really good way to end a day at the doctor and running around trying to get stuff done.

Weather

So I have to mention the weather, holy cow the weather. It figures that it has been really warm out and zero moisture what-so-ever. There is still snow in the backyard that has yet to melt from the snowfall we had nearly 3 weeks back now. The front has some ice on the driveway still and snow in the yards shady areas.

I had a crazy dream last night that on the Sunday we have to go back to work the weather guessers predicted there was a massive storm coming into the valley and we would have at least a foot of fresh snow in the valley by the morning for our commute back to work. Nooooo! I sure hope it was only a dream and nothing more. I don't want to deal with that on our first day back, who would?!

So yea, I figured that I have not mentioned the weather for a few days and wanted to update my dailies with the happenings. It's crazy that we are ready to kick off the New Year shortly and we have had only one snow storm where it amounted to anything. In case you are listening Mother Nature don't misunderstand, I am not complaining - just stating the facts. Please keep the snow up in the hills this season I wont complain and I doubt most will, even the hardcore snowboarders and skiers.

Any-Who

I guess that is about it for today. We are finally on the downside of our holiday vacation and while it will be nice to go back to work and get into the groove it will be crappy as well. It has been so nice not worrying about commuting to work, going to meetings and all of that. The New Year may bring some changes and challenges that I need to learn to face head-on and will probably have to have pretty thick skin depending on what changes actually happen.

Tomorrow evening Cicely's mom heads out to head back to L.A. and our visit with her will be coming to an end. Hopefully she will come back once baby is born and stay for a few days to visit her grand baby and help Cicely out. She will need it more than she realizes I think so it will be nice.

I think her sister is planning a visit as well, coming in from Florida so that will be great for her for many reasons as well. Hopefully I will be able to get a week off work and spend with my new daughter and the house full of newness and family and friends coming and going.
