Garage Painting, Day 2

Once again up early so I can have my morning coffee, feed the fuzzy kid and get my ass out into the garage so I can get everything cleaned up as far as the prep-work is concerned. This is usually about as hard as the prep-work itself so as expected it took about 3 hours to complete. Along with washing off tools and that sort of thing.

Painting Continues, Or Does It?

Once all of the floor protection was removed, all the plastic covering the stuff in the middle of the garage and any other items under wraps I felt like I was making pretty good progress. So I decided it was as good of a time as any to sweep up the paint dust that was pretty much everywhere, then mop the entire garage with a warm water and Simple Green mixture. Looks awesome, but still in a total chaos state since stuff is pretty much everywhere except where it belongs.

Back to removing the tape and plastic on the walls I realized that the tape was a little bit too tacky for straight drywall use and that I should have purchased the "orange" version of the "Scotch Blue" painters masking tape as it is less tacky and is actually made for untextured walls or walls that are only drywall like in the garage.

Anyway, when I started to peel it off, it was taking some of the drywall paper with it as well as some of the paint in certain areas, shxt! This meant that I had to come back and hand paint everything that was masked with primer, then use a filler patch material to go in and fill in the high-points - what a pain in the ass this process - easy but time consuming. In all honesty I really did not "have" to do it, but in the long run it will look nearly perfect vs. being able to see the areas that were taped. Most may never notice it but I don't care, I have put a lot into the project so why stop now!

Stripe

Because there was some down-time of painting while I did the repairs with the spackle material, Cicely asked me if I was still planning on putting a nice thick stripe around the garage walls. "Actually I think I am still wanting to do that" I said to her. She said "cool, want me to do the masking for you?". Oh hell yea do I, otherwise I prolly would not have done it to be honest - it's a lot of extra work to add it.

Well because she was and is such a cool wife and helped me out now it will be done and will look even more awesome. Heck, she even ran down to the paint store and grabbed me one more quart of the red paint to do the stripe (I was already planning to do the door trims that are leading into / out of the garage in red). Yea it also means at least another day before the walls are done but it's worth it in the long run. Then I still have to do the ceiling at some point as well as the area that is above the garage door where the big spring thing is that helps the opener motor to lift the door. So yea, lot's more work to be done.

Plane Crash

I just heard from Cicely that she saw a tweet from one of her friends that a plane crashed while landing at the San Francisco airport. The pilot came up a little short on the approach and the tail of the plane caught the rocks before the runway and tore the tail off the plane. The plane did catch fire, but luckily it was after everyone was off the plane.

Oh man, I hate hearing this kind of news. The stories right now are all over the place depending on the media site you go to but last I heard everyone was ok and was able to get off the plane on their own. Whew, that is great news - but poor Cicely, she hates flying as it is and this will only add to her fears of planes having problems.

Paints Dry

That will do it for today, I took a break to eat lunch (Cicely got us some Greek food while she was out getting me more paint, YUM!). So now that my feet have had a nice break and my belly is full I need to get back to it before my eyes get heavy and I decide that it's nap-time! We did manage to get another episode of Battlestar Galactica in while we ate, great show - I am glad we started watching the 4 season series.

I should mention that credit for us watching the series goes to Cicely, she heard that it was a great series while listening to the Joe Rogan Experience podcast (great podcast too by-the-way).

Anyway, have a great Saturday doing what-ever it is you are occupying your time with! Only one more day then I have to get back to the normal day-to-day of a cubed life. Well Monday I have a doctor appointment, but that is not any fun!

Photo: Generally I use the Sherwin Williams "Emerald" paint. But for the garage, and $10 +/- less a gallon I gave their HGTV line a try. Happy to report that it's really great paint. Low odor as well just like the Emerald.
