Pedaling & Puking

OK so I need to apologize in advance for today's super ultra short post - probably the shortest to date. I mean I have said at time that this post or that post was going to be short and the next think you know I have managed to write paragraph after paragraph. Hey sometimes once the juices get flowing then the flood gates are open and words, stories and so on end up in here as a post.

Of course this means that now that I have said that this will be a short entry it will be hella long. Oh well, it's all part of the reason I do this - to journal my days a little and sometimes as I write it helps me to relax, feel better and get my mind of other distractions - much like going for rides!

Ride

So I did go on a ride today and it was an awesome one as well. I went up this huge hill that I have been wanting to climb for quite some time but never did it. Well today was the day I decided when I got up this morning. So that was exactly where I headed and am happy to report that while I seriously doubt that I broke any records on Strava, nor do I really care if I did - I was just happy that I mead it to the top without ever needing to stop.

Once to the top it was time to take a photo of this sign the lets you know that the climb you are about to hit is a 13% grade! Now I know that probably does not sound like much but unless you are a seasoned vet rider you will have your ass handed to your on a platter. If you are a person that rides a lot then you will surely make it up the climb, and probably much faster than I did as well and that is perfectly OK in my book! Gives me something to shoot for to be perfectly honest.

Barf

So after my ride today, which was only 42+/- miles I felt great as usual. I came inside and started slowly replenishing fluids even more than I was out on the road since I now had the unlimited supply of water at my beckoned call. Much better than rationing bottles, 2 to be exact, when I am out on the road pedaling.

Anyway, I did not eat a whole lot while out because again - it was only 42+/- miles. I made sure I was hydrated and I stopped to nibble on CLIF bar after being out there for an hour, then shortly there-after I popped open this little bag of cashew nuts and munched on those off and on.

Well by the time I got home, washed up and an hour or 2 went by and I had still not really eaten anything I started to get really nauseous and even puked up this weird brown foam two times. Cicely went and picked me up a banana and strawberry McCafe shake from McD's because for some reason those always help me. She also got us some Indian food for dinner.

I munched on what I could, feeling overly full from the smallest amount and sort-of bloated from the food as well as the water that I drank when I got home and while eating dinner. Slowly but surely feeling a little better. Still not anywhere near where I wanna be which is 100%. As I type this entry if I had to put a percentage on it I would have to go with 60% at this time - not bad, not bad at all considering how I felt just an hour ago.

Hope

Well let's hope that by tomorrow morning my body is back to normal and I can forget that this every happened. Well not necessarily forget it, it's a great lesson to be learned because normally I pack more than enough snacks and bring money to be able to stop and eat something but I was honestly not hungry until it was too late and I was in a state of puking, sweating, low temperature and many other things that may be related to heatstroke or malnutrition.

It was not very hot out today either though. I think the high was something like 84 degrees? So that was not the issue. Worst case I would usually get a little dehydrated because it was SO fucking windy!! But nope, had plenty of fluids and finished the last of them as I was taking my gear off and waiting for the garage door to close up..

No Class

OK one lat think before I end this short post that is now a typical length post. I have no idea why this happens but it does and I can't stick to keeping them short as I want to have everything in them each time. Anyway, this morning I went in to register for my last class for one of my programs and guess what - I am on a fucking waiting list for the class - I am so dam pissed you have no idea.

Granted I did wait an extra week to do the registration process but I did not have my new card yet in the mail after it was stolen and all of the fraudulent charges were put on it, then once I did I figured what was the difference if I put in for it on Friday night or Saturday morning? Well apparently there is a big difference and so I did not get registered and am now on a waiting list - sucks!

If they cant do something to get me into the class then I am screwed and will need to take the class in January or February of 2015. That is fine because I will have the class all finished and behind me as well as the degree in hand but I wanted to do it the way I planned so I could get them both awarded to me at the exact same time / day. Oh well that may not be in the cards now so all that I can do is keep my head down and get registered.

I mean I even left myself a calendar invite so I would do it early enough and I still missed it. The class is not until the 17th of September so that is a ways off. I have registered for others the week of the class with no problems - my guess is that there are a lot of new people doing the program and getting that class under their belt or they are in need of the class to start the process of updating some of their qualifications for certain positions.

So....

Here's to hoping with my fingers and toes both tightly crossed for luck that I will feel much better in the morning as this is not any fun. My belly is gurgling now too so hopefully the next stage is not the shxts - that is all that I need to round out the day.

Lesson learned to try and eat a little bit more than the bars when i am out there doing long rides. When I did the 100+ miles last weekend I did not have any issues. I just made sure I had some string cheese, a quick-mart sandwich, a burger on the way back and that sort of thing so maybe that is what kept me from getting sick.

With that I am now, for reals, going to officially cut this short post off and dive into a little more food or a snack to see if it helps me out a little more. As I type this I am pretty dam tired and have typed much of it with my eyes closed, then I simply open 'em to proofread real fast. OK, I hope that whatever you are doing is great and as planned. For us it's still a slow and kinda mellow weekends going around to see family and let them visit Zoey.

I mean there is only so much you can do with a 5 month old. She will get there in time an we can't wait to see how she grows. I think she is looking more and more like Cicely this week - such a beautiful girl. I know every parent says it too, but she is really curious and smart as well which is great. She catches on to stuff so fast and you can see the gears turning when she is looking around - love her SO MUCH!

Photo: This was the sign near the top of the climb that I was doing the first hour of my ride today. Honestly it was not that hard, but the problem was that it seemed to never stop. No matter I am still floating on a cloud that I did it as well as followed it up with 3 or 4 more climbs. They are still relatively small compared to the elevation that some of my friends do, but for only riding road bikes for a short time, maybe 4 months??, I think I am progressing great!
