Digitally Speaking

Well the weekend is here and I am ready for it. It has not been one of those crazy weeks that it could have been, but more productive than anything else. But don't misunderstand or interpret "productive" as me being caught up and looking for something to focus my attention on. I do have plenty to do, seems there is always something on the plate anymore and when there is not, the internet, social media and so on tend to find ways to make you busy.

Let's be honest, myself, probably like most individuals, families and related could spend entire weekends organizing photos and video they have taken so far that year. The amount of media we consume as well as generate in the past 5 to 10 years is crazy when you think about it and it's not like it's going away or going to slow down anytime soon.

Speaking of media, it's a weird one to think about now. In the past you left loved ones with old shoe boxes filled to the top with photos of family, vacations and memories. Most with ball point pen scribbles on the back explaining what, when and who. Then there were many that did not have anything, these opened up family conversations, stories and at times even debate about the who, what and when of the photo.

Now with everything digital how do you do that? It's not quite the same and while we are able to save a hundred times more of our memories we have a thousand times more difficult time sharing them with others. Sure you can send them a link, post on social media and so on but I mean the tangible feeling of holding a piece of history. The smell of nostalgia when you find that old box of photos and lift the lid.

I also worry how we will pass all of this down to our lived ones. Most media storage is not free and even if so neither allow you to easily pass on the passwords etc. If you do manage to do it and your lived ones maintain it, you are now in a situation where they need to maintain it for their children and families so the trend continues.

I don't know the solution to this or where it's all headed that's for sure. If I did I would probably rest easier knowing it will all be there for my daughter and her family should she decide to have one. Heck even this blog may not be here as I hope it will by the time she is of age that it will interest her.

Oh well I guess I need to do as I have done until now and keep on keeping on and roll with the changes. No one really knows where things are headed and really most would rather not know. It kinda takes the fun out of it.

Real Quick

I have to mention that I was able to go for a ride this afternoon but not as long as I would have liked to have gone. I did not leave until 5:00 PM or so, so in theory I should have had at least 3 hours worth of daylight. Well I did, sorta - because it started getting really dark because of cloud cover and then the wind started picking up (what else should I expect, right?), within about a half an hour it was sprinkling rain, so it was a good thing that I turned north and started my pedaling in the opposite direction of the rain.

I still got wet, but not as bad as last time thankfully. I am starting to think that if I don't get use to riding in the rain I might as well get use to not riding at all. I think I will try to plan my rides better and avoid the weather. Generally it's my fault because I fart around all day then go. Anyway, just wanted to mention that I was able to go after not going for 2 or 3 days. Felt really good but I can sure tell I have been not riding for a few days.

Hopefully things will work out and I can try to go for something a little longer - only made just over 18.4 miles - about 60 miles short of what I wanted to accomplish in a single ride this weekend.

Photo: Had to go into the studio today to approve some time and was starving so I grabbed one of these bars. Nasty, I took one bite and threw it in the trash and spit out what was in my mouth. That says something if I was starving and still spit it out. Just really dry, fake tasting flavor and no real goodness to grab my taste-buds. They were fresh too, initially I figured they were stale, nope.
