Now in reality we have had this washer and dryer set for just over 14 years, heck maybe even as long as 15 years! Anyway, knock on wood - we have not had any problems with them other than a small repair being needed on the washer about a year or 2 after we bought it and then one more small repair last year when these "dogs" went out. They are essentially the clutch parts for the washers agitation motion, locking and releasing the big spindle.
My point is that it has been a great appliance set and is used regularly. So when we, well she, found the puddle it was time to do a quick brain check and decide if we would repair or replace. At this point I think the best option will be to repair it again. I almost think that this is the same issue we had the second year or so after getting the set but Cicely is remembering it being something else.
So I started the search for a YouTube video showing the repair as well as information on possibilities of the leaking part to help narrow down the one that we need to get on order. Surprisingly there is little to no information on this washer when it comes to that repair. This can be seen as good and bad. Good because if there is not a lot of information to fix our model, maybe it's because it lasts so long and parts don't break unless time fatigued or abused.
Still I was and still am in need of some help with the repair. I know that I am more than capable of doing it but it's always helpful to watch someone do it once as well. No luck, the only repair that has a video, several of them actually, is when replacing the drain pump. The nice part is that it did teach me the best way to get the metal case off of the thing. Several hidden clips, screws and so on would have been frustrating to locate on my own.
Now I think I need to take it apart and determine exactly where the leak is at. I have a good idea and would normally just order the parts I assumed were bad and replace them. Problem is that I am looking at $200 +/- to get everything in that part of the machine back to new, when I may only need a single $45 to $75 part and call it done.
I suppose I will need to bite the bullet and take it apart this week, maybe tonight, and get the part shipped to me ASAP. It's a bit of a pain in the ass to work on because our laundry room is small but I don't have any other choice. I did take a look at new machines, combo kits most that come with the washer, dryer and if a front loader the pedestals as well. While nice, really nice actually, I would be looking at an expense anywhere from just under a thousand up to $3500 to replace them with a new set. Plus I am sure there would be some extended warranty b.s. as well to purchase.
I will go over all of this with Cicely today but my bet is that she will want to go the repair route as well and save the money in case something else is in need of repairs or replacement. Heck we were just talking last weekend about our A/C unit, furnace, refrigerator and so on. They too have been mostly flawless since day one so we are just "waiting" for something to spring up as broken. Man I sure hope not, but it's gonna happen one day - it's all part of the game!
More on the washer fix later. I am simply hoping it's a fairly quick fix and I can move on with life and clean clothes until the next time it wants my attention.
Fever
So kiddo was still a little bit under the weather today her nose is running a little bit and she still has a temperature that is going up and down but thankfully has not went over 100.1°. I just don't like seeing her this way because she is such a good little girl and tries to be happy no matter how she feels.
My bigger hope is that she is not coming down with croup like so many of the kids have been at daycare. According to the interwebs, she would not have a fever but would have cold-like symptoms and get the cough over the night.
She does have a little bit of a cough but I think that is all part if her body fighting the vaccinations that she was given at the end of last week during the 4 month check-up. Plus the runny nose may be draining into her throat a little and causing the cough as well.
Anyway, I just hope that she starts to feel better and gets past this. Like I said, she is such a little trooper and tries really hard to be happy and smile even at times when she does not feel 100%. I think she gets that characteristic from her mom because I am a big baby when I get sick. Thankfully it has been over 4 or 5 years since I have really had anything. Heck I don't remember the last time I missed work from calling in sick. It's probably been as many as 10 years.
OK enough on that. It's time for me to now go knock on some wood so I don't jinx my good luck and end up coming down with some nasty "whatever" that is going around.
Cycling, Lack Of
No bike ride last night as I had hoped / planned. I probably could have managed but the wind was blowing like crazy, the roads were still damp from the thunderstorms and I was not sure if there was anymore rain coming or not. From the looks of the sky there was more, but I think the wind kept it moving more North so it never hit us again.
Oh well I was pretty sore for some reason anyhow so it was probably a good rest day. Tonight after work I will plan to go and get some miles in. I need to get going or I will not be able to hit my 50 miles for the week!
Interviews Are All Done
So we were able to finish up all the interviews yesterday at work which is a great thing. Today I can get back into work and do the things that I needed to be doing last Friday and yesterday. Not that interviews are important but they just take a lot of time, energy and focus.
I am confident after my conversations yesterday with the other managers that we have our decision down to our top 3 and we just have to figure out within those who the best choice or choices are. There is rumor that we may get as many as 2 new hires but we have to wait to see how that plays out.
Otherwise back to business as usual today and focusing on a normal day today tasks.
