Kiddo
First things first - Zoey seems to be doing better and better every day but still sounds a little bit like a zombie with her grunts and gurgles. I hope that the cold will be through her soon and she can get back to being her normal self.
Also because it wears out Cicely quite a bit. She is an amazing mom to Zoey and is able to make her feel better with ease. She is calm with her and let's her know that everything will be alright and that we are there for her. Exactly the things that a great mom does naturally.
Weather
So more crazy weather this afternoon. Wind that pushed in flash floods, hardcore rain and enough flash flooding in some areas that people were not able to get their cars out if parking lots. There was even one restaurant over in south Reno that Cicely had to drive past that had some of the rock and dirt hills washout into the parking lots.
I have a feeling that there will be more of this to come over the next couple of days so we just have to be ready for it.
With that I am going to move on to other things. I added this later on in the afternoon and now my phone is still being a little sluggish after yesterday. Come on new iPhone so that I can upgrade and forget about my dumb mistake of letting the phone get wet in my seat bag on the bike yesterday.
Washing Machine
So the clothes washer started to leak water about a week ago and I had to guess based on what I know about it and what has broken in the past to know what parts to order. My hope is that I guessed accurately otherwise I will be out just over $140 for the parts and will have wasted tons of time in my day pulling the machine out, taking it apart (the biggest pain in the ass part of it) as well as cleaning up any water spills and so on from working on it.
If the washer / dryer room was bigger it would be a fairly easy task to take care of. Because it is not, I have to do it partially in the laundry room and partially in the garage if I remember correctly from the last time I had to work on it.
All said and done if it works and does not leak I don't really care if it's a hassle or whatever to work on. On the other hand if I do all of this, put it back together and we have water on the floor then that will be a real shxtty situation. So I am going to focus on the positive and that the repairs I do will correct the problem.
From what I can tell it is leaking from the softener / bleach dispenser area. I think that was the part that cracked in the past but I don't remember 100%. It could also be the full tube or the vent for the full tube that is the problem. I did order new parts for those as well "just in case". I figured that while it's out of the laundry room I might as well replace all associated parts so I don't have to pull the dam thing out again.
Honestly if much else goes wrong with it I may just break down and start looking at a new washer and dryer set. I would hate to have to spend the money - the pairs that we like range from just over $1,000 all the way up to $3500+ depending on the features and stuff we want.
We really don't need a zillion bells and whistles though. Honestly we use almost none of them on the current washer and dryer set. I am a little nervous with the new front loaders because I have heard that they will start to smell really bad after use. I hear from friends that if you get in the habit of leaving them open after use the stinky washer is a rare occurrence - we leave our current washer kid open after using it now so nothing new there.
Anyway enough about that project. My hope is that I will get it done today and can forget about it for a good long while. Those 2 machines have worked flawlessly for us for over 15 years so I really need to stop bitching about one little repair that I need to make, ha ha.
Lawn
Next on the list is getting my ass outside to mow the lawn. I have not mowed it in 2 or 3 weeks because it was growing slower with the heat of summer beating down on it. Now that it has been humid and raining the past few weeks fairly steadily it has sprouted up like crazy. My neighbors are probably wondering what my problem is.
Not to mention it does look like there is rain on the horizon again so I really need to get it done before that happens. In the past it would have sucked to mow in the rain and would not be the most ideal situation. Now having an electric cordless mower it's not even an option to be considering. Well unless I want to replace a $600+ mower this year - nope don't wanna do that.
Road Bike
I also need to do some serious maintenance on the road bike. After it was drenched yesterday I need to pull it apart and clean and lube everything really well. I was blown away by how much crap I had all over me, my bike and everything in between.
The roads around here have a ton of sand on them. I knew they used it often in the winter months but assumed the street sweepers etc would get most of it by summer. Nope, everything was a filthy mess and some of my stuff besides the bike still is a mess.
iPhone
So I am writing this post on my iPhone 5 and it seems to be working just fine so far. I was a little concerned last night when it would barely work and had a mind of its own as far as the touch screen goes - that is when it was working somewhat. Most times it was 100% non responsive - not cool!
I placed the phone in rice to help pull out the moisture and it seems to have helped. The touch is working so far and the camera does not appear to be fogged up like it was yesterday from humidity and moisture getting into it. Lesson learned though, put my shxt into a Ziploc bag - never know when the weather might change in an instant and I will be stuck in a downpour like I was yesterday afternoon.
Although as I think I mentioned yesterday - there was something kinda zen and nice about riding in the rain. Today the work it will have cause me to clean up the bike sucks, but in a weird sort of way I think that it was good for the mind, body and spirit to be out there.
REI
I need to swing past REI today to give them another was of my hard earned money. I tore up one of my shoes clip-less cleats yesterday to the point that one of the little traction pads is about ready to fall off. I ordered a pair on Amazon as well so I have 2, and ordered some clear covers that I can have with me in the future when I need to walk around with the shoes on. At $30+ dollars for them it's not something that I want to have to continue to replace so often.
The shoes have always had me concerned about wear and tear. I can't remember if they were in the $160 range or the $260 range? Either way, something I would prefer to not have to replace very often. My goal would be no sooner that every 5 years for the shoes but who knows if that is realistic?
OK
Enough out of me, this stuff is not going to magically get done while I am sitting here typing into my blog now is it? I am burning daylight and would like to get in a short ride tonight if possible. If not then that is OK, I will give my body a rest, but if so I plan to take it easy and just work on getting seat time in. Any Strava records, distance and so on would be the unexpected icing on the cake.
With that, enjoy your Sunday and don't think too much about work starting already tomorrow if that is the schedule you are on because no matter what it will come. It's up to you how you spend the time before then - I say enjoy it as much as you can and in the manner you so desire to spend it!
Photo: It's my lucky day, 1 fortune cookie that contained 3 fortunes. Even though all 3 were identical it was still cool.
