It's our Monday on a Wednesday which is always a nice way to start any week off. A 3 day workweek is great, but also means that I have to cram 5 days into 3. Not always the easiest thing to do. My hope is that there was not a lot going on the past 2 days and I can simply roll into the week smoothly and take care of some pressing issues first thing.
I do plan to take time and catch-up with a few of my team members with regards to events from last week that we never had time to address because of the shortened week and us getting out a little bit early on Friday after lunch was catered in for us. I think those should be open and closed conversations. If they require my time and follow-up then that will of course add to my week. No sweat, all part of my role as manager after-all.
Self Entitlement
This morning we were running a little behind schedule so of course this means that there would be an accident or construction on the way in. Once we were up to the area that was causing the delay it was thankfully only construction on the highway. A much better thing to see Monday morning than someone in a car accident. To be honest, that is never something I want to see any time of the day. Same with dead animals on the road, breaks my heart every time I see them.
Anyway, with traffic accidents or road work you always get the assholes that can't seem to merge when everyone else is merging so they zoom up at the last second and cut someone off. This almost always causes problems and another accident. For some reason they feel like they deserve to be in front of everyone and that where they need to be supersedes all of our destinations. I "get it", maybe they have a loved one in the ER or are late for work and this is strike 3 before they are fired or put on suspension. It happens, I mean I had to drive like a total asshole to get to the hospital when Cicely was in labor, but I was fully aware of it and did not put anyone else into danger doing so.
This is today's driver who felt that he was more important than everyone else. He ended up not cutting us off, we of course "played ball" and closed the gap when we saw him speeding up from behind. Although he did cut off the lady in front of us. She turned off at the next intersection so he ended up in front of us for a photo opportunity that we would have otherwise missed - thanks! In the end he had to get over anyway just a few hundred feet ahead to make a right hand turn. We were surprised because although still driving erratic, he actually used his blinker this time and did not cut a single person off while getting over.
Washing Machine
So last night while Cicely was taking care of a quick load of laundry she went in to pull the load out and put the clothes in the dryer only to find that she was standing in a puddle of water. "Well crap" she said aloud and told me what was going on when I asked "what's the matter?". I walked in and sure enough something was leaking again.
We have been fortunate with our appliances knock on wood that they have lasted well over 10 years with little to no problems. The first year or so we replaced something on the washer, maybe a seal? I can't remember exactly, I just remember it's a hassle to get the washer out the door.
With the refrigerator I had to replace a motor unit - it was easy, but a little nerve racking and intimidating at first because of the electrical stuff I had to do. Basically cut some wires, connect other wires and so on. Easy but it was OEM with 4 wires for example and the new part only required the use of 3 of them. In the end it worked out just fine and has been running for almost 3 years since.
Anyway, the washer is leaking up by the fabric softener / bleach dispenser area. It could be one of the dispensers is cracked, maybe the hose has a small crack in it or the air vent for the fill line is clogged. Last it could be dirty from buildup of fabric softener, dog hair and related which would cause it to start overflowing a little when it goes to that part of the wash cycle. No matter, it will need to get fixed as soon as I can because ordering parts usually takes a few days to get them delivered.
Drain
OK, that is about all for today. Going to try and get a bike ride in after work even though I am super sore from all of the yard work I did yesterday. It's crazy, I workout, ride my bike and stay active and don't get sore often doing that. But give me one 5 hour day in the yard and I can barely get out of bed the next morning. Sad I know!
Photo: Not the part in question but much more interesting as a photo, than the part in question. Let's hope for an easy fix! Although getting the machine into the garage to work on it is always a pain.
