The Browncoats

Why did they take Firefly off the air? I am not looking for an answer, I know why. Because the fuck-sticks at FOX felt it was too dark and not what their audience wanted at the time. Maybe that was the case 10 years ago when it was airing. With the lack of the internet being as mainstream as it is today they had limited resources to judge it's popularity and eventual cult following I suppose.

Why 10 years later am I babbling about Firefly? No I didn't suddenly find time to talk about a recent Comic-Con trip, although I would like to attend the event at least once in my lifetime. The reason it's on my mind today is because of a special that aired about a week ago on the Science channel and I finally found the time to watch it titled "Return of the Browncoats". It was more of a mediated round table discussion than anything else but really made me miss the show once again.

I would be kidding myself to hope it might come back. Especially since they killed everyone in the final movie, but could they? Yea actually I think they could bring it back if they got creative. Using a few different spins on the ending we have already seen in Serenity would even work I think. For example, show the new episodes as though you have not seen Serenity, even though you have, sorta like the Star Wars series. I am sure any idea can be filled with bullet holes of reasons they would not work, I would just like to see more of it. Time to put the topic to rest, maybe at the very least they will do another roundtable in another 10 years. At the end of this reunion they said they planned to, so if it happens you can count on me tuning in.

In local news, its a nice warm day outside for the middle of November. The weather guessers said it is supposed to be nice for the most part of the day and start to get really windy later this afternoon. From the looks of things on the South side of town they are spot on - surprise surprise. They also mentioned it may snow tonight or tomorrow. I dunno if that will happen, it's still a little warm if you ask me but the weather in Northern Nevada has a tendency to change very quick.

Cicely and I are planning to go see the movie "Wreck-It Ralph" on Wednesday (tomorrow) if all goes as planned. If work let's us out early like last week then we will probably go to an earlier showing, possibly matinee which would be sweet to save a few bucks on admission. Should be fun, I know Cicely is pretty jazzed about seeing it which in turn makes me excited as well.

I read something interesting today that made me stop and think. As obvious as it is I still wanted to jot it down and share because we all do it, is it wrong or just the way things are in an electronic age? I did change it up a bit from the original to suit me but the point remains.

Essentially it questioned the fact that the majority of our societies congratulations, happy birthdays, and other celebrations, heck even simple pats on the back, seem to have lost their meaning. Even more-so with things like Facebook. Most are pre-canned and unemotionally digital.

With a few mouse clicks and pounding on a keyboard you can instantly "celebrate" another's life events. While I prefer to stay on the down-low during such events, questioning it brings to light the obvious and it does make you stop and wonder if these events have truly lost their meaning and sincerity in some way over the years. I don't have the answer (42) but did feel the need to throw the question out into the ether.
