St. Maarten

Today we woke up in St. Maarten and it was a great feeling and an awesome way to start a day.

Wasting no time, we got dressed and headed down to the buffet to have breakfast to start our day off on the right foot before getting off the ship. Breakfast was great and hit the spot as always.

After we ate, we headed back up to our room and grabbed our tickets for the excursion, sunscreen and cash for the day. Ok we are set, lets get off the ship!

Headed down to deck 4 where you exit the ship and go out to the gangway. Had our id's checked and were officially off the ship and heading up the dock.

Walked for a few minutes up the long dock up to the pier and realized we had just under 2 hours before our scoot coupe excursion, so we did a little shopping. We were lucky and found a fridge magnet we liked right away, I found a shirt too and Cicely found a cool tank top, unfortunately no pink in her size so she had to get orange.

After wandering around for another 45 minutes or so we decided to head over to see where the pick-up was for our excursion. In luck, we found it no problem with enough time to have Cicely run up to the room and drop our stuff off so we did not have to carry it around all day.

It's 10:30, time to head off to the scoot coupe excursion. We hopped in a van, about 15 of us, and drove 10 minutes to the location of the little scoot coupe cars, super cool, I will post a picture of them at some point or add it in-line here.

Arrived at the scoot coupe place and picked one out, red was the color for us with matching red helmets, yea we looked cool! After a short introduction on how to operate them we were on our way to the first stop.

After a short 10 minute drive through the town we stopped at this spot that had several cool iguana's walking around that we fed cabbage to. There were chickens, roosters, ducks and even a cute little donkey.

Ok, back in our coupe and through some more city streets and side roads. At one point our scoot did not have enough power to get us up this big hill. Mostly because the guy in front of us did not get a good run at it. Yup we were stuck mid-hill so we had to get a push from the tour guide with his 4 wheeler. Our clutch was smoking and stinking but we made it up.

Arrived at our second stop which was a small lookout point and had a guy doing demonstrations of Conch shell opening. I went up on this lookout and took a panorama shot of the area which was cool, it was a short stop overall but I have to mention one interesting thing.

Let me start by saying that never in my life have I been hooted and hollered at like a construction crew does to a woman walking by the job site. Well kids today was the day for that. These 3 attractive, younger black women were giving me the "oh, mmm hmmm look at that handsome man, and hello baby, oh lets take a photo with him" chatter. I was totally embarrassed and quickly walked down the stairs to find Cicely ha ha. Honestly, it made me feel really good but embarrassing at the same time. Ok back in the coupe and off again.

Stopping at our final destination at a beach called Orion. It's a clothing optional beach, but we saw only one couple with their tops off and tan boobs bouncing around, I am a boob guy so it was a pleasant surprise. I guess if you go to the right of the area we were at pretty much everyone is completely nude.

Ok back on topic. We body surfed and played in the water, had some Corona and Carib beers and 2 punch drinks they gave us complimentary. While playing in the water I stopped for a minute and was basically standing there watching the waves and then I yelled "oh shxt, oh shxt, somethings biting me, ahhhh!!". I still do not know what it was, it may have been an angel fish I dunno.

It did not bite, but it just sort of sucked on my side or something retry hard, no blood or anything, it was weird and really freaked me out, Cicely thought it was pretty funny I think! I mean it was, but not at the time. Tonight I noticed I have this strange hickey on my lower left side of my belly, I wonder if it was the fish? Great, just what I need!

More playing in the water and body surfing. At one point Cicely lost her glasses in the ocean. not just any glasses nut her awesome pink glasses that made me start calling her "Cizzle Wonka". We assumed they were gone for good and after a few minutes of looking we gave up and went to get a drink.

Back down to the water a little while later and whatta you know, we see her glasses! No way! We dove down and grabbed 'em and I took them back up to the shore to avoid losing them again. Back to playing in the ocean.

Out in the water about waist deep there was this guy walking by with a big bag of bread so we were like what the heck and walked over? Well what do you know, he has all of these angel fish that follow him around and eat the bread as he gives them chunks. It was really cool. He even let us go up to them and sort of "pet" them and have them swim around on and over our arms, AWESOME!

"Sad face"! Time to leave the beach and start heading back to where we originally got the coupes. We had a nice drive back, hopped into the van to take us back to the pier.

Back at the pier we shopped around some more and had some chicken nuggets, fries and a rum runner to drink. More shopping and one more drink of this rum by the name of, of all things, Bakers Rum, how cool is that? I think it's pretty cool! It was good although I didn't taste much rum so it was probably more like a $6 Slurpee.

Back on the ship at 5:30 so we headed down to the buffet to get a quick snack to take up to our room, sit on the balcony and wait for our ship to leave while watching the other ships leave (2 Royal Caribbean and a Carnival).

It's now 6:33 and dark. We are sitting on the balcony still and the ship is just leaving the port at. Dinner tonight at 8:15 as usual but we may just do the buffet because we are full and pretty tired. Either way, we need to get our butts in bed so we can be ready for our day in St. Thomas tomorrow. I think it will be another great day.

I am not sure if we will be able to get in the water, I hope we can, but we are planning to do some scenic stuff for the first 3 hours only so we will see. At St. Maarten if you did not have a guide it would be hard to know where to go to get to the beach so I'm not sure if St. Thomas will be the same.

It's been a great day and I cant wait to come back to St. Maarten and visit again. It would be cool to stay at a resort over by that Orion beach we were on today. No not because of the tan boobs hanging out but because it was really friggin' nice. Had food, a bar, lots of seats on the beach as well as activities like jet-skis, body-boarding lessons, para sailing and stuff like that. Maybe one day we will.

For now we are on our way to St. Thomas to see what other adventures come our way for the day.
