Back To Work

So it's back to work today already and of course it never fails that work days are twice as slow as holidays, vacation days, half days and any other non-work day. Although in some sick and twisted way it does feel good to be back I will admit. Super busy playing catch-up after my 12 days away but its worth every minute of catch-up time. Ask me in another week or 2 if I am happy to be back at work and my response might be very different. It could always be worse, I feel lucky to be in such a fun, laid back industry. How many people get to play around with games all day long and get paid for it.

Looking into going to GDC this year in San Francisco, California in March 2013. GDC is the annual "Game Developers Conference". It's usually a pretty good event even though the game industry I am in is much different than the majority of its focus. Plus it's nice to get away from work with colleagues. I pick up something each time I go to most any conference, if nothing else it helps to get the creative gears turning.

It's been awhile, I think my last GDC conference was 2005 or 2006 so I'm looking forward to it if management is able to fit it into the budget. I am actually hoping there will be some focus on tutorials, boot camps and related for gaming engines such as UNITY. A few coworkers have attended UNITY's UNITE conferences but they found those to have an individual developer focus which doesn't really fit our industry "yet". No matter it's great to see what's out there!

Really there is not much else to write about today. It's getting colder out, 46 degrees Fahrenheit right now and a low of 27 for the day, more of the same the rest of the week with some rain (that I hope does not turn to snow) Friday. Otherwise people seem to be prepping for Thanksgiving and the upcoming holiday season and that is as exciting as it gets for this entry, sorry!

Photo: A sign the housekeeping crew used on the ship for the vacuum cleaner cords etc., I thought it was a cool sign.
