Much warmer day today and unfortunately no fog or frost like we have woken to the past couple weeks. Bums me out because I was really hoping to be able to get a shot of the coppice area by the waterfall feature near the exit of my subdivision. I knew we should have turned the car around yesterday morning and took the time to get the photo. Unfortunately I assumed we would have a second chance today. No such luck, lesson learned.
Humane Society
Today we took the long, back-route to get to work so we could stop by the Nevada Humane Society and drop-off some goodies for the homeless fuzzy kids. Only a small drop-off this time that consisted of a few cans of premium wet food that we are not feeding Oggy since we changed his diet and one feeding bowl that hooks inside of a crate or cage.
Generally during the holidays we make an annual stop and drop-off 4 to 10 of the big 40 or 50 pound bags of dry dog food, cans of wet food as well as kitty litter and a case of cat food because even though we do not have a cat, I have had cats while growing up and they need lovin' too until they are adopted. I try to support NHS the most with donations of money and food since they are a no-kill shelter. I realize it's a massive undertaking to do this, so I try to help out as much as I can. Before we had Oggy I would help out a little more, but now it's more 60/40 - I think it's still helpful and I know that the shelter appreciates everything they can get.
Plus what is the point of taking the lazy way out and tossing stuff like this in the garbage? Sure you have to drive a little out of your way or use a few minutes out of your lunch hour to drop off donations. But think about it, it may very well help a fuzzy kid survive another day. So c'mon people, animals are always there for us - don't be selfish, be there for them when they need you! If you are one of those that feel otherwise, and think they are nothing more than "dumb animals", then I for one hope that karma takes a big chunk out when it comes back to bite you in the ass!
Snappy Dew
Cicely is going in for a haircut today, well a cut and style I guess is what the ladies call it. When I get a haircut I simply shave down enough to lower my ears a bit, no styling necessary. A little splash of water and a few back and forth motions with the palm of a hand and I am ready-to-go!
In the past Cicely would not only be getting her hair cut and styled but she would also add color. It is so friggin' cool when she does, but holy cow is it bright! The down-side is that it stains just about everything - from pillow cases, the tub/shower and even her neck the first few days until the excess color washes out. The last few hair appointments she has colored it a combination of aqua and pink (her business colors) with black and the before that for a couple of years it was always bright pink. Sounds crazy I know, but Cizzle can pull it off better than anyone and it looks awesome!
I guess at the very least if our kiddo wants to go punk rock like his/her dad was back in the day or like his/her mom is now, then we can't really say too much about it huh? I think it's kinda stupid when parents but those restrictions on their kids anyhow. I mean don't use the harsher chemicals on their scalp and hair until they get older and make their own decisions - and by "harsh" I simply mean the stuff that a salon would use. Not necessarily "harsh" by definition, but harsher than other choices. There are always options like wash out colors as well as good old Kool-Aid like my buddies and I would use to color our "skater bangs" several times a week. Fun stuff, and nothing wrong with it. Even conservative piercing would not bother me, nipples, nose, eyebrows and related are off-limits until they are older, but otherwise why-not?
When raising kids I feel that there are much bigger lessons to teach them about life and growing into a responsible adult, focus on that shxt! Tattoos are entirely their decision and can be done when they are old enough to go into a parlor on their own - well unless its a "DAD" tattoo, then I may have to co-sign for that one. Although if they came to me, as I would hope they would, I would love to discuss the pros and cons of their tattoo idea and offer insight on whether or not it's something they may grow out of one day and regret.
Headin' Out
Yep, thinkin' that is about all I have for today. Tuesday's tend to be a little uninteresting than other days of the week. Possibly it's because you are slammed on Monday from everything that you put off on Friday and use Tuesday to dredge through it. By Wednesday you are in-the-groove and on Thursday starting to burn out. Friday you finish up the most pressing issues and as the day progresses your focus turns toward the fast approaching weekend and what you are planning to put off until Monday, which will ultimately fall back into your lap on Tuesday! Wash, rinse and repeat.
