Ahh, The Weekend

Planning to go for a nice ride today as I type this. I'm just getting ready to leave actually and it's only 10:00 in the morning which is awesome in my book!

More times than not I don't get out until nearly noon which really puts a dampener on the day. Especially when it's hot outside or we have bad weather coming in. Today we are not supposed to have either of those, it should actually be fairly mild if the weather guessers are correct with their guesses. Suppose we will see when I report back this afternoon!

Cycling

Managed to get in a great spin yesterday and I did it all in kinda crappy weather along with having weak legs for some reason. The weak legs I can only attribute to not cycling enough the past week other than on the trainer mostly. While that helps a lot, it's still much different than cycling outside.

As far as the weather goes, hell, I guess I am being a little dramatic about that as well, mostly because I hate the flippin' wind. Yesterday I was mostly annoyed because the weather really wasn't that bad, it was actually really nice out, the problem and what made me look at it overall as a shxtty weather day was because of the typical windy bullshit that we always have in this area.

If you are not a cyclist or a runner for that matter then you would not really understand the amount of extra power that it takes from your body to perform in the wind. Around here, even if you have a 'calm day' with an off and on 2 mile an hour breeze up to a 10 mile an hour headwind you have to work twice as hard to maintain your typical cadence. Not only does this wear your muscles out faster it wears on you mentally.

Anyway I managed to get through all of that mentally and physically which meant I rode from my house all the way to the California border. Coming back I took a few turns here and there to go through a few subdivisions to get a few easy miles and give my legs a little break.

I also did something that I never do which is to stop at home to have some lunch and fill my water bottles with fresh drink and ice. We did not have much for food so I was kinda at a loss. As luck would have it, Cicely texted around that time and offered to bring home something because she's just finished shopping for pants.

I was all over that and happy she had perfect timing. By that point I was really hungry because the only 'food', and I use that word sparingly, was I my yogurt and granola that morning which is food and was great, the problem is the rest of what I had for the day was junk food I bought when I hit the California border. I had a snack pack of those cheese crackers, two beef and cheese sticks and a drink plus the extra one to fill my bottles. Yea, totally not enough food.

There is a Jack in the Box about 1/8 mile down the road but it's always jam packed and not only do I not want to go in there with my gear on I don't want to leave my bike outside so I never go there even though it would be a filling meal for me when I do that ride.

All Done

So once the ride was over I was happy with my results but wanted just a tad more. I grabbed Zoey and her trailer and off we went to not only have fun together but to get a few more miles in for the day and make it my biggest ride to date, hopefully anyway.

Once home and checking my Garmin 1000 I was stoked to see the results. I ended up burning just over 6,000 calories (that seems a little bloated to me though, I'm thinking around 4,000 but oh well). As far as elevation I climbed somewhere in the ballpark of 3,300 feet or so and my mileage ended up finishing the day off at 105.2 miles total!

I am stoked to be honest and have no other way to put it into words. It was by far not easy and took just over 7 hours, I think it was 7 hours, 20 minutes. I probably could have shaved an hour off had it not been windy. At the same time when I'm on those rides it's for the ride and journey as a whole not the speed at which  I finish for the day.

Nighty Night

With that and as you can imagine I am exhausted and I think I am going to hit the hay, get a good nights rest and if I'm able to, go for a nice ride tomorrow if my body and mind are up to it. Nothing like today of course just something more mellow to keep my legs going.

Photo: The results of my spin yesterday. Not bad if I don't say so myself. I did not have the legs I needed but I finished my goal for the day so I'm happy!

Great spin today even with no legs for it!
